Welcome Messages

Dear AEC Professional,

Welcome to Ecobuild® America!

Thank you for attending this important event sponsored by The National Institute of Building Sciences. With the recent government mandate and stimulus funding for high performance building, staying up to date with the latest methods and materials for green and sustainable building has become more critical than ever before. A large part of our industry’s success in achieving these goals will be fully leveraging new and developing technology to improve interoperability and efficiency.

We welcome design and construction professionals in a variety of disciplines from both the private sector and government as we once again gather to share ideas on making our built environment Sustainable & Smart. The inspiration, resources, and people you need to achieve your company’s or agency’s goals are here at Ecobuild.

We are proud to produce Ecobuild America with help from the most prestigious industry associations, publications, agencies, and corporations. We are honored to welcome National Institute of Building Science members to their Annual Meeting, and other associations making Ecobuild the site for their annual meetings and educational programs.

For improving your projects, profiting your company, expanding your career, saving the environment, creating new opportunities, building the future, increasing your network, discovering new tools, getting face-to-face with government officials, putting your finger on the pulse of the built environment – you’ve come to the right place at exactly the right time.

Sincerely,

George S. Borkovich

Dear National Institute of Building Sciences Members and Friends:

I’m proud to invite you to attend the National Institute of Building Sciences Annual Meeting, December 6-10, in Washington, D.C. The event, to be held in conjunction with Ecobuild America at the Washington Convention Center, offers you a wonderful opportunity to learn about Institute activities as well as to catch up on the latest innovations in sustainable practices, building information modeling (BIM) and high-performance building design.

Please join us for a wide variety of board, council and committee meetings; information-packed conferences; technology demonstrations; networking opportunities; exhibits and other co-located events.

This year, the Institute will host meetings for its Board of Directors, Advanced Materials Council, Building Seismic Safety Council, buildingSMART alliance Board of Direction, Consultative Council, Coordinating Council, Facility Maintenance and Operations Committee, High Performance Building Council, and Whole Building Design Guide Board and Advisory Committee.

In addition to participating in these important council, committee and board meetings, plan to attend our outstanding educational programs. Institute conferences include:

buildingSMART alliance Conference - Find out how BIM is supporting transformational efforts in sustainability, durability, security, energy optimization, improved safety, environmental and raw material stewardship, occupant productivity and overall life-cycle analysis and budgeting. Tracks include: case studies, education, green BIM, BIM and GIS, and standards.

FEDCon® 2010: The Market Outlook Conference on Federal Construction - Get up-to-date information on upcoming federal design and construction budgets, programs, events and market outlook across applicable agencies. Hear federal construction forecasts and find out the latest regulatory updates affecting federally commissioned projects.

Advanced Materials Symposium - Learn the latest on advanced materials research and applications at this new symposium. Topics will cover: high-ductility concrete; carbon fiber-reinforced polymer strengthening to mitigate progressive collapse; elastomeric retrofits for concrete masonry unit walls for enhanced blast resistance; and emergent materials for security, energy and the environment.

We’ll have technology demonstrations, including the Construction Operations Building information exchange (COBie), Specifiers’ Properties information exchange (SPie), Quantity Takeoff information exchange (QTie) and Life-Cycle information exchange (LCie).

You won’t want to miss the National Institute of Buildings Sciences Annual Awards Dinner, where members of the Institute gather to honor those industry leaders who have made an exceptional contribution to the nation and the building community.

Plus, there are numerous Ecobuild sessions; a bookstore; an exhibit hall with Sustainable and Smart Theaters (including one on BIM & Intelligent Buildings sponsored by the buildingSMART alliance); and co-located events hosted by a number of other organizations.

Institute members will receive a 20% discount on registration to the Ecobuild America Conference (just use promotion code “NIBS20” when registering).

Visit our Annual Meeting Page to: view a complete list of events, sign up for email updates, get registration and hotel information, and find out about exhibit and sponsorship opportunities.

I hope you can be there to share in this wonderful event.
